About Omega Serials
On most Omega watches, the serial number is engraved on the case back. On Seamaster and Speedmaster models, it may be on the case side between the lugs. On vintage pieces (pre-1980s), it may be engraved on the movement itself, visible only when the case back is removed. Modern Omega watches also have the serial laser-etched on the case back.
Unlike Rolex, which changed systems (numeric → letter-prefix → random), Omega has maintained a single continuously-increasing numeric serial system since 1895. This makes the Omega serial lookup system more straightforward and generally more accurate. Omega's records are also more systematically documented.
The Speedmaster Professional ('Moonwatch') was introduced in 1957 and was worn on all six moon landings. Seamaster production began in 1948. The Constellation dates from 1952. For specific model identification within these ranges, the reference number (found on the case back or in the bracelet) is the primary identifier.
